This Day in Disney History- January 27
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- January 27.
January 27th was a slower day in Disney history, but we still had the debut of a new animated series, the closure of a Disneyland attraction, and the debut of a Walt Disney World sporting event. So, let’s get into it!
The Inaugural Indianapolis 200 Is Held (1996)
On this day in 1996, The Walt Disney World Speedway hosted the inaugural Walt Disney World Indy 200.

The race was put together by Walt Disney World’s new Sports Department.
Toy Story Funhouse Opens (1996)
On this day in 1996, the Toy Story Funhouse opened in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland.
The attraction was originally built for the Totally Toy Story attraction at the El Capitan Theatre.

In the Toy Story Funhouse guests could play with a giant LiteBrite, meet Buzz and Woody, run through an obstacle course, and play the new Toy Story video game!
Emperor’s New School Debuts (2006)
On this day in 2006, the Emperor’s New School debuted on the Disney Channel.

A spinoff of the Emperor’s New Groove, the animated television show would run for 52 episodes.
Planet Hollywood Reopens (2017)
On this day in 2017, the redone Planet Hollywood Observatory opened at Disney Springs.

As part of the redesign, the exterior of the restaurant was transformed from a 90s globe, to early 20th century observatory.
Star Wars: Path of the Jedi Closes (2020)
Finally, on this day in 2020, Star Wars: Path of the Jedi closed at Disneyland.

The attraction, which originally opened in 2015, featured a 10 minute montage of memorable moments from the first seven Star Wars films.
