Transformation at Hong Kong Disneyland
During Christmas time, Cast Members make final preparations for the coming Lunar New Year makeover. Initial planning begins 9 months prior and includes design, production, decoration application, lighting, and music ideas.
After the holidays, Christmas decorations come down, and plants are removed from Town Square to make way for Lunar New Year decor. New decorations are installed first, followed by unique greenery and lighting adjustments.
The process is done overnight, after Park closing. Town Square’s planter dons a big display, beloved by Guests!
2023 is the Year of the Rabbit, and for Hong Kong Disneyland, it’s a celebration of StellaLou, from Duffy and Friends. So what does this year’s new decor entail?
Cast Members added water elements to represent wealth. Flower inspirations are scattered throughout the Park and hotels, as they’re symbolic of the Lunar New Year!
Weather is the biggest challenge when it comes to installing new decor. Hong Kong Disneyland can experience substantial rain and typhoons, which can affect progress.
It’s a race against the clock to complete the task, but well worth it when Guests walk through the next day! I don’t know about you, but I love going behind the scenes to see how Disney pulls off big events like the Lunar New Year transformation!
