Welcome back to our continuing journey through the magical history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- January 26!
January 26th featured the debut of a new Donald Duck cartoon, the opening of a classic Toontown dark ride, and the maiden voyage for Disney’s newest ship! So, let’s get started!
The Clock Watcher Released (1945)
On this day in 1945, the Donald Duck cartoon The Clock Watcher was released.
Directed by Jack King, this short featured Donald as a gift wrapper in a department store.
Wonders of Life Films Released (1990)
On this day in 1990, Disney released three educational films under their Wonders of Life series.
The 11-minute videos were created for elementary school children. Titles released on this day were: The Bones & Muscles Get Rhythm, The Brain & Nervous System
Think Science, and The Heart & Lungs Play Ball.
Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin Opens (1994)
On this day in 1994, Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin debuted in Disneyland.
The dark ride was inspired by the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and featured 16 different Audio-Animatronics. Car Toon Spin was also the first Disney ride to allow guests to control their vehicle while following a track.
The Koala Brothers Debuts (2004)
On this day in 2004, The Koala Brothers debuted on the Playhouse Disney.
The newest children’s show to premiere on the Disney Channel, the Koala Brothers used stop-motion animation to tell its stories.
Toy Story Mania Announced (2007)
On this day in 2007, Disney announced its plans to create Toy Story Mania!
The attraction would initially open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in May 2008, before the Disneyland version opened a month later.
Disney Dream Sets Sail
Finally, on this day in 2011, the Disney Dream set sail on her maiden voyage to the Bahamas.
The first guests to step aboard the ship were the Smolsky family of Leesburg, Virginia. The ship would sail for four nights on its first voyage.
