‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Is Now The 5th Highest Grossing Film Ever
Another day, another record broken by Avatar: The Way of Water.
Last week, James Cameron’s sequel to the 2009 blockbuster Avatar joined the exclusive $2 billion club. But, the film isn’t stopping there.
After grossing another $7.2 million overseas, the film has now brought in over $2.06 billion overall.
The new gross number is enough to move The Way of Water above Avengers: Infinity War to become 5th highest-grossing film of all time. The latter film grossed $2.052 billion.
The Way of Water
Avatar: The Way of Water brought viewers back to Pandora, where they were reunited with Jake Sully and Neytiri, who now have a family.
When Pandora is once again attacked by human invaders, Sully and his family seek refuge with the Metkayina clan.
The Way of Water has been well-received by fans and critics alike. The film was recently nominated for four Oscars, including Best Picture.
That’s not all. Now that The Way of Water has reached the top five, director James Cameron can lay claim to three of the top five highest-grossing movies of all time, the others being Avatar and Titanic.
Not Done Yet
The Way of Water continues to run strong in theaters. As such, it will likely pass Star Wars: The Force Awakens shortly.
The only other films to gross more than The Way of Water have been the original Avatar, Avengers: Endgame, Titanic, and the aforementioned Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The next blockbuster release will be Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17. Until then, it seems that The Way of Water will be given a prime opportunity to add to its total. More records will surely fall soon.
