Angela Bassett Becomes First Oscar Nominated Actress for a Marvel Film
Earlier this month, Marvel celebrated an exciting first, with a particular Golden Globes win. Now, the Studios are celebrating another feat, as Angela Bassett becomes the first actress to be nominated for an Oscar for a Marvel film.
Angela Bassett plays Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, a sequel to the original Black Panther. Recently, she celebrated her second win at the Golden Globes.
Previously, she won best actress in a musical or comedy for the 1993 Tina Turner biopic, What’s Love Got to Do With It. This year, she won the Golden Globe for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
In an inspiring acceptance speech, she shared, “The late Tony Morrison said that your life is already a miracle of chance just waiting for you to order its destiny. But in order for that destiny to manifest, I think that it requires courage to have faith.”
This was especially exciting for Disney fans because it was the first time an actor had ever won a major individual acting award for a Marvel movie! Now, Marvel is celebrating another first with Angela Bassett’s Oscar nomination.
Just announced, Bassett is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
As reported by Discussing Film, this makes her the “first actress to be nominated for an Oscar for a Marvel movie.” It’s an exciting time for Angela Bassett, Marvel Studios, and Disney fans around the world as the beloved movie is celebrated.
