January 22nd, featured the debut of a new Disney Channel show, the premiere of an E-Ticket attraction, and an honor bestowed on Minnie Mouse. So, Let’s get started!
Ub Iwerks Leaves Disney (1930)
On this day in 1930, Ub Iwerks left the Disney Studios.
After initially being lured away by distributor Pat Powers, with the promise that he would head his own studio, Ub would eventually return to Disney.
The Book of Pooh Debuts (2001)
On this day in 2001, The Book of Pooh debuted on the Disney channel.
The new animated series relaunched the Winnie the Pooh brand for the company. The new show used a combination of puppetry and digital animation to tell its stories.
Monster’s Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue Premiered (2006)
On this day in 2006, Monster’s Inc. Mike & Sully to the Rescue had a star-studded premiere at Disney California Adventure.
The new dark ride replaced the former Superstar Limo attraction and was based on the 2001 film Monsters, Inc.
Year of the Mouse Celebration Begins (2008)
On this day in 2008, Hong Kong Disneyland kicked off its “Year of the Mouse” celebration in honor of the Chinese New Year.
The celebration would continue through February 24.
Minnie Mouse Gets A Star On the Walk of Fame (2018)
On this day in 2018, Minnie Mouse received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
40 years after Mickey was given the same honor, Minnie Mouse finally got her due. The mouse’s star is located at 6834 Hollywood Boulevard.
Radio Disney Shuts Down (2021)
Finally, on this day in 2021, the Radio Disney app and website shut down.
Although the station would continue to be broadcast on iHeartRadio, the writing was on the wall for the radio station.
