Splash Mountain Temporarily Closes Days Before Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Transformation
Our MickeyBloggers are at Magic Kingdom today where they stopped in Frontierland to check out a popular attraction. Unfortunately, upon their arrival, they discovered that Splash Mountain is temporarily closed, just 5 days before its Tiana’s Bayou Adventure transformation.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Transformation
Many have been rushing to Disney World to soak up their last opportunity to experience the original version of the ride. Fans have also been eager to get their hands on merchandise before the changes commence.
For those unaware, Splash Mountain will be rethemed in both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort. Opening in late 2024, it pays tribute to The Princess and the Frog film.
Walt Disney World’s transformation starts on January 23, 2023. That being said, any ride breakdowns from here on out will be especially frustrating for visitors.
After discovering that the ride was down, our MickeyBlogger talked to a Cast Member to find out what was going on. They said that maintenance had to get a part from Tampa this morning, and closed the ride during park hours to fix the problem.
According to Cast Members, it should reopen sometime later today, but as of right now, they’re unsure. The app also reflected the breakdown saying, “Temporarily Closed.”
Update: In the late afternoon of January 18th, Splash Mountain finally reopened. Almost immediately, the wait time was 70 minutes, so you might be in for a long wait if you’re on your way to ride it now.
Splash Mountain
Currently, Splash Mountain takes its inspiration from the 1946 Disney movie, Song of the South. Once onboard, Guests drift through the Southern bayou with Br’er Rabbit.
Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox are in pursuit of the hare, as he looks for his “laughing place.” Over 100 Audio-Animatronics are featured in the ride, including geese, frogs, raccoons, possums, bees, alligators, and other critters.
A musical experience, Disney songs include classics like “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah” and “Ev’rybody’s Got a Laughing Place.” The ride culminates in a thrilling 5-story drop into a thorny Briar Patch!
It’s unfortunate that Splash Mountain is experiencing a temporary closure just days before its Tiana’s Bayou Adventure transformation. We hope it reopens for Guests later today!
