Reedy Creek Sets Aside Land For Future Theme Park Expansion
Some interesting Disney World news has been making the rounds online. According to a piece that first appeared in TouringPlans, the Reedy Creek Improvement District held a planning meeting this morning and plans were revealed regarding land use within the district.
Reedy Creek updated the plan to include addition hotel room expansion plans. This isn’t unusual given Disney World’s ongoing resort projects including the DVC construction happening at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. The move essentially gives Reedy Creek the ability to further develop Disney World’s resort properties.
An update from the Reedy Creek planning meeting: The long-term land use plan “was updated to allow for the addition of two more minor parks. What are minor parks? @LenTesta asked and was told “like water parks.” https://t.co/XbHvdYZdEP

But as you can see from the Tweet posted earlier today by @ScottGustin, the most interesting part of the land use plan was the fact that it was also updated to allow Disney to expand its theme parks. The Reedy Creek Improvement District clarified that the two “minor parks” mentioned this would be more akin to a water park than another massive theme park like Magic Kingdom.
The 2020 plan included 1 major theme park and 2 minor parks – but it’s unclear if plans revealed today are in addition to 2020? Or just finalizing the 2020 plan in 2023. My guess is this “finalizes” the 1 major theme park, 2 minor theme parks that was first mentioned in 2020. pic.twitter.com/Txc4V5drPA

However, later in the meeting, Reedy Creek did adjust the land use plan to leave room for another major theme park (AKA a fifth date.) It should be noted though that at this stage, the land allocation seems precautionary so the likelihood of Disney World announcing a fifth theme park at some point soon remains slim.
So why go through the land allocation process if there’s no current plans to develop Walt Disney World’s theme parks soon? Getting approval by the Reedy Creek Board to develop the land now ensures that the land has been allocated for further use before the Reedy Creek Board changes hands. If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog, you may have seen the news that Governor Ron DeSantis is making moves to install a government board to run Reedy Creek taking the power away from Disney who has been privately governing the district for over 50 years.
This is a story that we will continue to follow closely. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for further Walt Disney World news and updates.
