Even More Elements Removed from Facade of Tomorrowland Light & Power Co.
Whelp, the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. store certainly has seen better days! Once a key player in the retro/futuristic juxtaposition of the area’s aesthetic, this iconic store seems to be drifting further and further away from what we know…and further into the exciting unknown.
While enjoying a stroll around Tomorrowland this morning, our MickeyBloggers noticed that even more of the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. facade has been removed in its ongoing renovation. For reference, here’s what the store used to look like:
And here’s what it looks like today:
Back in August, we reported that the huge, Hidden Mickey-esque cogs had been removed from the front of the building, which has been closed since the summer.
Now, we’re noticing that even more of the store has been removed, including the clock, the power graphic, and the cog-inspired trim around the roof.
It’s kind of like a sorrowful spot-the-difference!
As you can see from the photos, the store has definitely seen brighter days.
However, we remain hopeful that this change is indicative of the nearing of a “great big beautiful tomorrow” in the store’s story!
Although it hasn’t actually been confirmed, we are under the assumption that the store’s closing has something to do with the development of the neighboring TRON coaster, which is rapidly progressing through it’s testing phase at the Magic Kingdom.
It’s a possibility that the store will be transformed to reflect this hot and upcoming attraction, perhaps to house merchandise inspired by the ride itself.
In the meantime, however, guests are going to be met with the blank canvas of a building, which is looking rather bleak now more elements have been removed. Those trees placed out front are doing a good job of hiding the entranceway, but can’t reach high enough to cover the store’s tall facade!
As always, be sure to stay tuned to MickeyBlog as we keep a keen eye fixed on Tomorrowland, especially as the TRON coaster’s highly-anticipated opening date zooms nearer.
We can’t wait to see what’s to come of the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. facade, and shall keep you updated on any progress as we spot it!
