New Walt Disney Word Parks Magnet Comes to Discovery Outpost
One of my favorite things to do when looking at old Walt Disney World merchandise, is see how the park’s icons have changed over time. While Cinderella Castle has always been the focal point of any Magic Kingdom item, the other park icons have come and gone over time.
The addition of EPCOT Center in 1982 brought us Spaceship Earth, while Disney’s Hollywood Studios originally used the Earffel Tower as its icon. Although Animal Kingdom has always been represented by the Tree of Life, Spaceship Earth received a wand for 15 years, and Hollywood Studios switched to the Sorcerer’s Hat.
Finally, since the removal of the Sorcerer’s Hat and Earffel Tower, the Hollywood Tower Hotel has supplanted the Chinese Theater as Hollywood Studios’ main icon.
Whew! That leads us to our lineup today of: the Tree of Life, Hollywood Tower Hotel, Cinderella Castle, and wand-less Spaceship Earth.
Current Disney Parks Magnet
Now that we got all that out of the way, here is a look at the current park icons. Over at Disney Animal Kingdom’s Riverside Depot today, a new Walt Disney World Magnet arrived. It features all four park icons in all their glory.
Each park is represented by their signature landmark on this magnet, and each icon is given its own color. The Tree of Life, Hollywood Tower Hotel, Cinderella Castle and Spaceship Earth are all represented. The four icons are sitting behind a giant Walt Disney World logo.
I like how the designs of these icons are simple, while still emitting the feeling that each icon gives. Here is a closer look.
