Genie+ Sells Out for 3 Days in a Row + Disney’s Response to Questions
Disney Genie+ sells out for the 3 days in a row… more than a year after its debut we’re finally seeing the lamp ceiling. Is this only because of high crowds? Could it be that Parks Executives have put a cap on Genie+ in an effort to mitigate the nay-sayers? Increasing scarcity for bigger profits? Read on friends.

Scott Gustin is a reporter from Greensboro, NC that is constantly updating the Twitterverse on all things Disney. He owed up to missing that Genie+ sold out for the first time on December 27th at Disneyland in this tweet:
Somehow I missed this yesterday – Genie+ sold out at Disneyland Resort yesterday. I believe this is a first for either coast? https://t.co/OOXYNcPXHP

The next day, Scott was on the lookout and shared that December 28th proved to be another busy day at Disneyland with Genie+ selling out before 1pm PST.

Genie+ Sells Out, but WHY?
Now the thing we’re all wondering is WHY is Genie+ selling out days in a row at Disneyland. The first time this happens, it keeps happening. There are several possible answers…
Park Executives might be having a hard time breaking “the Chapek effect” of profits over people. Increasing scarcity of a product increases profits.
If Disneyland is selling out of everything that allows people to enjoy the core functions (park passes, Genie+) of a theme park (the attractions), then future guests will be more likely to pull the trigger when fluctuating prices get higher.

…Itty Bitty Living Space
The parks could also just be busy enough (during what Disney reports is its busiest week of the year) that we’ve finally hit the previously unknown ceiling of Genie’s lamp. It’s just like when we seasoned Disney-goers used to get to the Fast Past Ticket distribution machines only to learn they were all out of those precious little tickets for the day (for that ride).
Well, theme park reporter Carlye Wisel posted this tweet today:
I reached out to Disneyland to inquire if Genie+ selling out this week was due to high seasonal crowds or if it can be expected to occur more often in the future.

There is a high guest demand for Disney Genie Service at this time, and stop-sales are an effort to manage the volume of Guest utilization to help provide a good experience for those who have already purchased Disney Genie+.
So the official word is that Park Executives are working to help everyone have a good time and feel they get their money’s worth when they pay upwards of $25-$30 per person per day for the chance reservations to one Lightning Lane at a time, depending on availability.

If this really is the case and officials are attempting to make things fun for everyone with Genie+, I’m all for it. The last thing I want to see when I purchase Genie+ for the day is seeing zero rides available for the rest of my day!
The moral of these stories, if you want to use the Lightning Lanes, make your purchases before Genie+ sells out for 3 days in a row.
