First Look: Count Dooku Lightsaber Now at Dok-Ondar’s at Galaxy’s Edge
Our MickeyBlogger is at Disney’s Hollywood Studios this morning and popped by Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities where a brand new lightsaber is now in stock. This beauty is a replica of the weapon used by Count Dooku!
Star Wars fans will know Count Dooku as a Jedi Master who fell under the spell of the dark side ultimately becoming the Dark Lord of the Sith- Darth Tyranus.
StarWars.com did an interview with Concept Artist Roel Robles earlier this year where he talks about coming up with the inspiration behind this unique weapon!
Robles recalled, “I do Filipino martial arts, which includes fighting with different sticks and knives. I had a collection of Filipino and other Asian fighting swords. So, when we were doing Count Dooku’s hilt, I brought in my collection for everyone to see.”
Robles was inspired by a Filipino weapon known as a barong which sported a curved wooden handle. “George [Lucas] came in to review all of the swords,” he remembers, “and he actually chose the barong, which is what I was hoping for.” Robles would work together with fellow Lucasfilm concept artist Dermot Power to refine the design and get it ready for Attack of the Clones.
The Dooku saber was a highlight of Attack of the Clones for Robles as it provided an opportunity for him to incorporate his Filipino culture in his work.
You can take home a bit of Star Wars history with this stunning new lightsaber.
Here you can see the curve of the hilt in full effect.
It also sports a blue blade.
The handle is silver and black.
The new hilt joins an already impressive line-up of replicas.
Reservations are strongly recommended for those wanted to make your own lightsaber at Doc’s.
The lightsaber retails for $169.00.
