Welcome back to our foray through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- December 28.
December 28th featured the release of a Silly Symphony cartoon, the birth of a Disney Legend, and finally, the debut of a new Disney Channel show. Let’s get into it!
Stan Lee Born (1906)
On this day in 1906, comic book publisher Stan Lee was born.
One of the main creative forces behind Marvel comics, Lee was named a Disney Legend in 2017.
Playful Pan Released (1930)
On this day in 1930, the Silly Symphony Playful Pan was released.
Directed by Bert Gillett, the short features the Greek God Pan coming to Earth to bring music and dance to the flora and fauna.
The STOLport Closes (1972)
On this day in 1972, the last scheduled flights into Walt Disney World’s STOLport took place.
Originally opening in 1971, the STOLport was used for short-range air trips to Walt Disney World.
The Best of the Muppets Tonight
Finally, on this day in 1997, The Best of the Muppets Tonight debuted.
Airing on the Disney Channel, the Best of the Muppets Tonight featured Rizzo and Gonzo introducing clips of Muppet Show.
