Remembering Carrie Fisher 6 Years After Her Passing
It’s still hard to believe that a beloved actor is no longer with us. Join us in remembering Carrie Fisher 6 years after her passing.
On this day, 6 years ago, a Hollywood icon left us unexpectedly. As we continue to mourn her loss, let’s celebrate her legacy by taking a look at her life and contributions.
Carrie Fisher
I’m sure everyone has a different story of how they came to know about the iconic actress. For me, it began with her parents.
I grew up watching a lot of old movies. My mother often had Turner Classic Movies or AMC playing during the day, throughout my childhood.
Therefore, I was a fan of veteran actors from the black-and-white era of movies and television. Carrie Fisher comes from what some may call Hollywood royalty.
Her mom was Debbie Reynolds, perhaps best known for Singin’ in the Rain, and her dad was Eddie Fisher, a popular 1950s singer and actor.
Fisher spent much of her childhood reading books, taking an early interest in classic literature and poetry. When she was 16, she appeared in the Broadway revival Irene with her mom.
Later, she enrolled in drama school. Fisher made her film debut in 1975 in Shampoo at 17 years old.
Shortly after, in 1977, she went on to play her iconic role of Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Today, Star Wars Holocron released a tweet, showcasing several stunning pictures of the actress from various films in the franchise. (see below)
Battles
Unfortunately, Fisher dealt with some brutal demons. She joked that her personal battles were “truly a product of Hollywood in-breeding.”
Often open about her struggles, she became an activist for mental health. Bravely sharing her battles with addiction, she sought to help others who were going through similar circumstances.
Passing
While in the midst of a book tour for her memoir The Princess Diarist, Fisher suffered a medical emergency onboard a commercial flight. After landing in Los Angeles, she was taken to a hospital and placed on a ventilator.

On December 27, 2016, she passed away at the age of 60. Star Wars Holocron captures our feelings for Fisher perfectly in saying that she will forever be our princess.
Her legacy lives on through her daughter Billie Lourd, and through her work, both in entertainment and advocacy. Fisher was given the title of Disney Legend a year after her death, in 2017.
Today, we remember Carrie Fisher and celebrate her life and achievements.
