Walt Disney World Railroad Returns With All-New Look, Cast Member Previews Start Today
While we don’t have an official reopening date for Guests, Disney has confirmed that the Walt Disney World Railroad will be reopening this holiday season! Cast Member Previews started today, Thursday, December 22, 2022, and will be among the first to see some changes to the iconic Magic Kingdom attraction.
The Walt Disney World Railroad was an original, “Opening Day,” attraction at the Magic Kingdom. Designed to honor Walt’s love of trains, the attraction operated all the way to December 3, 2018, when it was temporarily closed due to ongoing construction for the much-anticipated TRON attraction.
Once Cast Members and Guests experience the all-new Walt Disney World Railroad, which features a 100-year-old vintage steam train, they will be treated to a new track and many more surprises.
Walt Disney Imagineers shared, “The familiar whistle of its steam engine will be complemented by exciting new sounds and voices. A new conductor has assumed the role, carrying the long tradition of warm welcomes and amusing anecdotes while adding fresh commentary and the story to the journey.”

As for the new conductor, Disney stated, “For these meticulously restored steam trains, we know the scenic grand circle tour must be guided by a voice our guests can envision and resonate with. Someone who grew up on Main Street, U.S.A., dreaming of the day they’d be on the railroad. They’ve now achieved that dream, and they know everyone and everything at Magic Kingdom … an unofficial mayor of sorts. This conductor is humble, genial, and knowledgeable, and he’s eager to help passengers of these iconic steam trains get to their destinations around the park he loves so dearly.”
