Variety Ranks Bambi as the Greatest Disney Movie of All Time
One of the silliest things that people do on the internet is argue over lists. Getting upset, or angry, at someone’s rankings is both counter-productive and a waste of time. With all that being said, we need to talk about Variety’s recent release of its 100 Best Movies of All Time.
While I will spare you all my dissertation on why it is preposterous that Psycho is ranked #1, I wanted to pass along what the trade magazine had to say about Disney films in particular.
According to Variety, Bambi is the best Disney film ever, coming in at 63 on the list. In their review, the staff points out the purity of the film and the way it normalized talking woodland creatures. Finally, the magazine’s analyses ends “What makes this Disney’s best is the simple way it invites audiences to empathize with creatures”.

Calling Bambi the greatest Disney film ever made is not a crazy statement. The movie’s characters and story have continued to enthrall viewers for almost 80 years. Despite that, to overlook classics such as Cinderella, The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast may be a misjudgment.
The only other Disney related film to make Variety’s Top 100 was Toy Story, which came in at #95. According to the list, Pixar’s first feature film is still the studio’s pinnacle. I myself would argue that the film was actually surpassed by Toy Story 2, but I digress.
Do you agree with Variety’s rankings? Is Bambi the greatest Disney film of all time? Is Toy Story the pinnacle of Pixar? Let me know what you think!
