Celebrate Hanukkah With These 8 Disney Plus Programs
With the holiday season upon us, we wanted to share some of our viewing recommendations for Hanukkah specials on Disney Plus (Disney+.) Whether you’re looking for something special for your next family movie night or want to learn more about Hanukkah itself- Disney Plus has got you covered!
1. The Ghost and Molly McGee – “Festival of Lights” (Season 1, Episode 10)
The McGee family along with Scratch (a ghost) pay a visit to Libby Stein-Torres and her family on the final night of Hanukkah. When a blackout happens, Libby’s mom boots up her bookstore’s generator. Though she only has enough power for one hour, the generator runs for eight hours. Libby and her family make the most of this time, teaching the McGee’s about their Hanukkah traditions.
2. “Puppy for Hanukkah”
Daveed Diggs (Hamilton) partnered with Disney in 2020 to create a new Hanukkah song – Puppy for Hanukkah. The anthem tells the story of a little boy who is Jewish and spends every night of Hanukkah wishing for a puppy. He finally receives one on the last night of the holiday. The song also takes us through some important holiday traditions. Diggs also recites a Hanukkah blessing in Hebrew.

3. Firebuds – “Hanukkah Hullabaloo” (Season 1, Episode 13)
Don’t miss this episode of Firebuds where Bo wonders why his mother doesn’t put up Hanukkah decorations like his father does for Christmas. To demonstrate how important Hanukkah is he goes overboard with decorations including a giant dreidel balloon that flies off in the wind leaving a path of destruction in its wake.
By the end of the episode, Bo learns an important lesson – there is more to Hanukkah than flashing lights and balloons!
4. Even Stevens – “Heck of a Hanukkah” (Season 1, Episode 15)
A Disney Channel Classic, in the Even Stevens, troublemaker Louis Stevens can’t wait to open up his Hanukkah gifts (which his parents have hidden somewhere in the house.) When he finds them and ruins the family gift exchange he ends up grounded for all of Hanukkah. The episode then pays homage to It’s a Wonderful Life when Bubbe Rose (Louis’ great-great-great-great grandmother) shows up to show him how his family would get on if he had never been born.
5. Full Court Miracle
This live-action film is based on a true story of a University of Virginia basketball star – Lamont Carr. The movie follows a Jewish basketball team in Philadelphia who need a new coach. Set over Hanukkah, the team find student Lamont Carr and convince him to be their basketball coach.
When the power goes out during the team’s final championship game, they make a bet with the other team that whoever has the most points when the generator goes out wins the game. Wait until the end for a true Hanukkah twist!
6. Puppy Dog Pals – “Latke Kerfuffle” (Season 1, Episode 20)
Bingo and Rolly go on a mission to help their owner, Bob, make latkes for Chloe’s Hanukkah party. The pups go on a hunt for eggs and potatoes while singing a song about the “Festival of Lights” and how delicious latkes are. Bob makes enough latkes for everyone at Chloe’s party while Bingo and Rolly participate in the lighting of the Chanukiah.
7. Pepper Ann – “A Kosher Christmas” (Season 3, Episode 11)
Pepper Ann gets to celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas each year. In this episode she mistakenly believes that her parents want her to choose only one holiday to celebrate. She makes a list of what she loves most about each holiday to help her make her decision. But in the end Pepper Ann realizes that she can’t pick a favorite.
