New Eats and Treats Coming to Animal Kingdom Lodge
Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World Resort has long been one of my favorite resorts for its incredible ambiance, stunning savannahs, educational resort activities and awesome amenities. With a wide array of eateries from quick service options at Boma to gourmet dining at Jiko, it’s also a phenomenal place to dine and that’s why were so excited to reveal these popular dining spots are now getting a bit of a menu makover!
We hope you brought your appetites for a first look at these tantalizing treats.
Shrimp Bakuli – Maji Pool Bar
Shrimp Bakuli means bowl in Swahili. This dish was inspired by Zanzibar’s open-air food markets. This is Chef Sahib Bhatti’s home country where each evening as the sun sets, the vendors prepare seafood delicacies with the catch of the day. The dish includes chilled poached shrimp, pickled carrots and Basmati rice with soy-ginger dressing and barbecue aioli.
Multigrain Tabbouleh – Maji Pool Bar
For plant based diners, this vibrant salad features protein-rich grains, fresh herbs and grilled vegetables!
Spiced Pork Nachos – Maji Pool Bar
Who doesn’t love nachos! This version comes topped with spiced pork, beans, herbed crema and kachumbari. Pork vindaloo is used in this dish and is prepared with flavors of paprika, garlic, tomato, vinegar and house-made spice blend.
Short Rib Grilled Cheese – Maji Pool Bar
A contemporary take on a beloved comfort food, the short ribs slow-cooked with a house-made spice blend, tamarind and red wine until tender. Buttery brioche adds the finishing touch along with gouda cheese and pickled onion and pressed to order.
Marinated Sun-dried Tomato and Herbed Ricotta Flatbread – The Mara
Starting on December 8th, you can head to Animal Kingdom Lodge’s quick service spot for this new flatbread. It features sun-dried tomatoes, fresh herb ricotta, tomato sauce, four-cheese blend and arugula.
The Chermoula-spiced Shrimp Bowl – The Mara
This must-try dish is made with grilled shrimp, pilau rice, kale slaw, cucumber-tomato salad and chermoula sour cream. Pilau rice is similar to rice pilaf and this version is simmered with Mara’s unique blend of spices.
The Chermoula-Spice Shrimp Bowl – The Mara
Similar to the Shrimp Bowl this dish is made with marinated chicken-thighs slow roasted over an oak-fired spit. It also comes with pilau rice, kale slaw, cucumber tomato salad and chermoula sour cream.
South African Vegetable Bowl – The Mara
This plant based dish offers the perfect balance of flavors. Chef Wend Welcovitz and Sous Chef Khuloud Abu Samra drew inspiration from South African cuisine to thoughtfully craft each component which includes curried vegetable stew, pilau rice, kale slaw, dried fruit achar and avocado-tahina sauce.
Sweet Potato-Groundnut Soup – Jiko: The Cooking Place
This new addition to the Jiko menu features spiced groundnuts, finger lime, pickled red chilies and sorrel. Groundnut is actually peanut, the African name refers to the fact that the legumes grow in the ground.
Way of Water – Boma: Flavors of Africa, Sanaa and Victoria Falls Lounge
To celebrate Avatar: The Way of Water on Disney 16th, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge will be introducing a signature beverage for those 21 and older! The Way of Water is a shimmering blend of African Starr Rum, BACARDI Raspberry Rum, Bols Blue Curacao and lemonade garnished with a glowing lotus flower and mint!
