Learn All About Jaguars With Special Nat Geo LIVE Events
Did you know that yesterday was National Jaguar Day? If, like us, that slipped under your radar don’t worry. With a little help from National Geographic LIVE, let’s celebrate the magnificent big cats through the spectacular work of two Nat Geo experts. Over the next several months, these cat experts will be sharing a closer look at these incredible creatures.
Star of Nat Geo WILD’s Untamed, Filipe DeAndrade will be part of a new LIVE event that provide attendees with an unfiltered look at what it’s like to come face-to-face with some of natures marvels including of course jaguars.
Jaguars are not to be mistaken for a leopard- is the last great descendent of the saber tooth tiger. Contrary to popular belief, jaguars are not socially dynamic, group of hunters that thrive in the water. They have a bite force of 2,000 pounds per square inch and their striking rosette patterns are as unique as fingerprints are to humans. When they call to one another it ranges from roaring, to mewing and grunting and they can be miles away. They do most of their hunting from the ground but they are also skilled climbers and can fish!
“I learned from the jaguars,” DeAndrade said. “They’ve been my greatest teacher in life, and now they’re my favorite animal. They taught me the meaning of patience, pulled me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to test out other environments.
In addition to DeAndrade, award-winning photographer and author Steve Winter will also be taking part in these Nat Geo LIVE events. Winter has been stalked by jaguars in Brazil- in addition to being charged by tigers in India and trapped in quicksand in the world’s largest tiger rserve in Myanmar.
Winter will be bringing you close to tigers, snow leopards, cougars, and jaguars. Steve’s goal throughout his career has been to not only capture the beauty, intelligence and behaviors of wildlife. During the event he’ll share images of animals that people haven’t seen before. The images capture the animal’s stunning beauty and habits and show why the jaguar’s existence is so precarious. The photographer says, “I hope these pictures inspire you to act, to do something to help save it. With every story I publish, I hope people walk away feeling more hopeful for ourselves and our planet.”
Jaguars have lost over 40% of their habitats and are now in danger of losing even more due to deforestation. Both Filipe and Steve hope to, through their work with Nat Geo, educate and inspired people to do more to protect the habitats of the jaguar.
Be on the lookout for Filipe and Steve’s inspiring National Geographic Live sessions. The events will take place in early 2023 and hear them speak about how to help out these and other beloved wild animals. Get the latest on NatGeo LIVE events. You’ll find them here.
