Shanghai Disney Closed Until Further Notice
If you’ve been following along with the news, you’ll know that tensions are mounting in China as the country continues to combat the pandemic. Therefore, it should come as little surprise that Shanghai Disney announced yesterday that it was closing its gates effective immediately and as of going to print, no reopening date has been given.
This news comes just days after the theme park reopened after a late October COVID shutdown. Since reopening last Friday, Chinese officials have stepped up their battle against a rise in COVID-19 cases in the country. However, due to the increased spread of the virus and a rise in protests related to the country’s long pandemic-related lockdown, Shanghai Disney is once again closing.
An official statement has been posted on the Shanghai Disneyland website that reads:
In order to follow the requirement of pandemic prevention and control, Shanghai Disneyland will be temporarily closed starting Tuesday, November 29, 2022. We will notify guests as soon as we have a confirmed date to resume operations. Disneytown, Wishing Star Park and the two resort hotels will continue to operate normally.
It’s been a long road as China attempts to get ahead of the virus. If you’ve been following along with us, you may remember that Shanghai Disney Resort initially ceased operations due to COVID in January 2020 and reopened in May 2020. It then closed again in November 2021 when 34,000 members were locked inside the park when a woman tested positive for COVID in the parks. The park reopened a day later. This was followed by a closure in March of 2022 which ran until June.
Guests with existing Shanghai Disney tickets from November 29 2022 throughout the time that the park is closed can use your tickets to visit the parks on any other day during the six months after the park’s reopening date. Tickets can be redeemed at the park entrance. You must bring your original Government Identity Card or Travel Document that you used when booking the tickets.
If you’re unable to visit the parks over the next six months, have dated tickets and other benefits like meal coupon you can also opt for a refund. Guests with resort reservations should not the the two hotels will be operating as normal. However, guests wishing to change their plans for stays from November 29 onwards can contact the original purchase channel for options.
