Happy Birthday, Toy Story Turns 27 Today
We are out-of-this-world excited that one of our most beloved Disney/Pixar movies turns 27 years old today. So, Happy Birthday, Toy Story. You have brought fans many years of laughs, tears, and infamous quotes!
Toy Story’s Release
So, Toy Story was released in theaters on November 22, 1995. Toy Story premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, California. In addition, it was released in North America on this date 27 years ago.
It was the highest-grossing film during its 1995 opening weekend, and it grossed over $373 million across the world. Of course, it did! I don’t think anyone is surprised at these numbers, considering its continued success and growing fan base.

Beloved Story and Characters
The original film follows the adventures of Woody and Buzz Lightyear as they realize the importance of friendship, loyalty, and teamwork. Throughout the years, the Toy Story franchise continued to develop this beloved story and introduce even more characters.
Honestly, I don’t know a child who doesn’t love Woody and Buzz, along with Rex, Mr. Potato Head, Bo Peep, Slinky Dog, and all the others. In fact, Disney/Pixar released the additional movies just in time for a new generation of young kids to enjoy and fall in love with these toys.
Here are the release years for the remaining films:
- Toy Story 2, 1999;
- Toy Story 3, 2010;
- Toy Story 4, 2019.
The Craze Continues
As a matter of fact, the craze did not stop there. Holiday shows, special shorts, video games, and more came out, all centering around Toy Story. Even an entire Toy Story Land exists at Walt Disney World Resort.
