Deadpool Christmas Special Loses Momentum
Though Disney is busy promoting the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special dropping next week on Disney+, another Marvel holiday special has fallen by the wayside. According to Ryan Reynolds, plans for a Deadpool Christmas special were dropped when the Walt Disney Company acquired 21st Century Fox back in 2019.

Reynolds was recently interviewed by UK publication The Big Issue to promote his film Spirited and said, “I would love to see a song and dance number in a ‘Deadpool’ movie. Four years ago, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and I wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool. But it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox and it never got made,” Reynolds shared. “Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie. It’s not a musical, but it’s a full ‘Deadpool’ Christmas movie. So one day.”
For those unfamiliar Reese and Wernick, which Reynolds mentions above, served as co-writers on the first Deadpool film. They returned for the sequel when Reynold’s was added to the team.

But, all is not lost when it comes to the future of Deadpool at the House of Mouse. A Deadpool follow-up is currently in the works that will be incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.
