This Day in Disney History: November 14
Welcome back everyone to our celebration of Disney history. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- November 14.
Today’s happenings include another big movie opening, a new restaurant, and a prestigious honor for certain frog. Let’s get going!
Kermit the Frog Receives Star on the Walk of Fame (2002)
First up, on this day in 2002, Kermit the Frog received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The star actually constituted Kermit’s second entry on the Walk of Fame, as he was previously honored as a member of the Muppets. His star is located at 6801 Hollywood Blvd.
Yak and Yeti Restaurant Opens (2007)
On this day in 2007, the Yak and Yeti Restaurant opened in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Located in the Asia section of the park, the Yak and Yeti is a table service restaurant that specializes in Asian cuisine. The restaurant is also thematically tied into nearby Expedition Everest.
Tangled (2010)
On this day in 2010, Tangled premiered at the El Captain Theatre in Hollywood.
Disney’s newest animated feature, Tangled stars Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi and Donna Murphy. The film was based the Brothers Grimm story Rapunzel.
At the time of its release, Tangled was the most expensive animated film ever made.
Despite this, the film was a massive success and would eventually earn back double its budget.
Moana Opens Premiers (2016)
Finally, on this day in 2016, Moana premiered at the El Captain Theare.
Attending the festivities were film stars Dwayne Johnson and Auli’l Cravalho, along with composer Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Moana tells the story of the strong willed daughter of the chief of a Polynesian village, who is chosen by the ocean to reunite a mystical relic and the goddess Te Fiti.
The film was a commercial and critical success, with Rotten Tomatoes critical consensus reading:
“With a title character as three-dimensional as its lush animation and a story that adds fresh depth to Disney’s time-tested formula, Moana is truly a family-friendly adventure for the ages.”
