Today in Disney History: November 10
Welcome back to another trip through Disney’s historic past! Today we are looking back at the events in Disney history on November 10.
On this day, a documentary was released that would change the company, a Grammy award winning soundtrack made its debut, and Pixar’s biggest disappointment had its premiere. Let’s get into it!

The Living Desert is Released (1953)
On this day in 1953 Walt Disney’s True-Life Adventure: The Living Desert was released.

Because RKO refused to distribute the film, Disney decided to start the Buena Vista Distribution Company to release their movies. Despite this controversy, The Living Desert would go on to be a surprise box office hit, earning $5 million dollars on a half a million dollar budget.
The film would also win the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature!
Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom Released (1953)
Also on this day in 1953, Disney released the “Adventures in Music” short Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom.
Directed by Ward Kimball and Charles A. Nichols, the short presented the evolution of four musical instruments over time. It was released concurrently with the Living Desert!

The Aladdin Soundtrack is Released (1992)
On this day in 1992, the soundtrack to the Disney animated film Aladdin was released!
Featuring the music of Alan Menken and the lyrics of Tim Rice, the Aladdin soundtrack would go on to be certified 3x Platinum for its 3,000,000 albums sold.

Off the soundtrack, “A Whole New World” would go on to become the only Disney song to win a Grammy Award for Song of the Year. Alan Menken was also given the Academy Award for Best Original Score for his work on Aladdin.
Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur Premieres (2014)
Finally, on this day in 2014, Disney- Pixar‘s the Good Dinosaur had its premiere in Paris, France.

The Good Dinosaur explores an alternate history where dinosaurs never became extinct. It follows the story of a young Apatosaurus named Arlo who befriends an young human boy.
Although critically praised, and somewhat profitable at the box office, the film was considered a relative failure based on Pixar’s previous standards. However it would find a cult following in later years.
