The sequel airing on Disney+ set a new Nielsen Streaming record with more than 2.7 billion minutes of viewing from September 26 -October 2.
Hocus Pocus 2 premiered just a few weeks ago on September 30th, so only its first weekend counted toward the total. Pretty impressive!
Who is Watching?
Nielsen’s weekly rankings measure only actual watched time while streaming via TV screen (mobile viewing does not count). The numbers include shows on Disney+, Hulu, Apple TV+, Prime Video, HBO Max and Netflix.
According to Nielsen, the audience for Hocus Pocus 2 is a wide variety of age groups with the 2-to-11-year-old, 18-to-34 and 35-to-49 age groups each making up one-quarter of viewing.
The arrival of the highly-anticipated sequel and the Halloween season generated renewed interest in the original movie. Hocus Pocus came in 7th place with 774 million minutes of streaming on Disney+.
Hocus Pocus 2 even beat out Encanto which held the previous streaming movie record at 2.2 billion minutes of viewing.
