Brightline To Test High Speed of Orlando Rail Network
We’ve got an update about how work on Orlando’s high speed network is coming along. Brightline trains will go through a test-run at higher speeds this weekend to ready it for it’s Orlando opening. According to a piece on Fox35, the testing will take place in Brevard County.
During the testing, the trains will travel at 79 mph this month. The speed is expected to increase to speeds of 110 mph early next week.
The work will take place along a 13 mile track which spans 18 railroad crossings and will bring longer wait times to drivers near those crossings. Fox 35 reports that flaggers will be stationed at the crossings from 6 am starting on Saturday, October 29th through Saturday, November 5th.
The following areas will be impacted
Canaveral Groves Blvd.
King St. – SR 520
Rosa L. Jones Blvd. (Poinsett Dr.)
Gus Hipp Blvd.
Barnes Blvd. (SR 502)
In a statement Brightline advised those impacted by the testing, “Residents should be alert, follow the law around active railroad tracks and railroad crossings and be aware that once the second track is commissioned, rail traffic could run on BOTH tracks. Failure to follow the law could result in fines, points on your license or loss of life.”
This is a story that we will continue to follow closely in the days and weeks ahead. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for further Walt Disney World news and updates.
