REVIEW: New Whiskey-Based Cocktails at Territory Lounge
Wilderness Lodge recently underwent a major menu overhaul at two of their most popular locations. We recently reviewed the new treats at Roaring Fork, and today we’re heading to another fan-favorite haunt located just off the lobby.
Territory Lounge has long been one of the best lounges to cozy up in after a long day in the Parks. We tried two of the new whiskey-based drinks on their menu…and the review is in!
S’more Old Fashioned
The S’more Old Fashioned combines everything that is great about s’mores, but in liquid libation form. Elijah Craig 12yr Bourbon is combined with toasted marshmallow syrup and chocolate bitters to create the dessert-inspired cocktail. The presentation gets full marks, as the drink is served with a little stick of toasted marshmallows as the garnish!
The idea of this drink is fantastic, and fits the theme of this Resort well…but for the price it didn’t quite come together for me. The drink was very bourbon-forward…but that’s all I tasted.
I didn’t taste any of the chocolate bitters, and there was not enough of the marshmallow syrup to provide any flavor (or enough sweetness) to cut through the bourbon. The bourbon was great and I enjoyed it as a a bourbon-forward drink overall, but those little nuances that made it a ‘s’mores’ drink were missing.
Timeless Elias
Named after Walt Disney’s dad, the Timeless Elias was my favorite of the two drinks we ordered. Featuring Macallan 12yr whiskey, Cognac, and vanilla syrup, the drink was a very alcohol-forward concoction. Served smoked, the presentation of this cocktail was again very well-done.
The vanilla syrup was definitely present here, and I most enjoyed that the flavors changed as I sipped. First, you get a strong whiskey flavor. Then, the whiskey gave way to the sweet vanilla and cognac combination that made me fall in love with it. Each time I picked the drink up, I was first hit with a waft of that cocktail smoke that took the whole drink to the next level!
