What Will Disney Be Like in April 2023?
I think we can all agree with Millhouse here:
April means Spring Break for many parts of North America, so you have an easier time planning a vacation. Naturally, you’re wondering the obvious.
What will Disney be like in April 2023? Read on to find out everything you need to know!
Let’s Talk about April Visits
The appeal of a Walt Disney World visit in April comes down to two fundamental truths.
One is that we always want to be at the Most Magical Place on Earth. The pandemic proved this once and for all.
When much of society changed to working from home, Orlando’s housing market exploded.
The explanation is that everyone could suddenly live wherever they wanted.
So, many folks moved to Disney. And I can relate because my family strongly considered it.
Those of us who cannot live in Central Florida visit as often as we can, and that fact leads to the second fundamental truth.
You’ll have a MUCH easier time planning a vacation when your kids are on Spring Break.
Sure, you can possibly take them out of school for a few days during the rest of the school year. However, many school systems frown on this.
Even when you live in a place that doesn’t, your kids risk falling behind in their studies, which isn’t ideal.
For these reasons, April visits make the most sense for many families. That’s particularly true in 2023, as Easter occurs on April 9th.
For Disney fans, spring at the parks means bunny/egg decorations, warm weather, and government holidays that save your precious vacation days.
Let’s Talk about the Weather
I just mentioned the warm weather, and you’ll be thankful for it.
You’ll spend all of January and February and possibly part of March bundled up in layered clothing. There may or may not be fireplaces and hot cocoa.
After you’ve shivered for several months, you’ll relish any chance to get warm. Happily, Disney’s the place for that.
According to Weather Spark, the average daily high temperature in Orlando is 84 degrees, while the low is 66 degrees.
For frequent Walt Disney World guests, I’ve just described the ideal weather. It’s not scorching hot but pleasantly warm.
Obviously, daily highs and lows come with a great deal of variance because, you know, that’s how weather works.
Recent weather data suggests that Orlando temperatures generally max out at 72-90 degrees in April.
Meanwhile, daily LOW temperatures can still be as high as 71 degrees. On the downside, a low of 52 degrees isn’t unprecedented recently.
So, a few chilly days are possible, as are some hotter ones. Therefore, I’d strongly recommend checking the weather before packing for your trip.
Farmers Almanac has projected one of the worst and longest winters in recent memory.
For this reason, Disney could –emphasis on could – have a colder April than usual. But, then again, it might be a scorcher. We never really know until the appropriate week.
Anecdotally, I adore April visits because the weather is perfect. It’s warm enough for short sleeves during the day. At night, you prefer long sleeves or a light jacket, though.
These options are vastly superior to needing to wear a tank top and bright clothing to avoid adding a couple more degrees to the heat.
In my opinion, Walt Disney World is never better than when the temperature is in the mid-70s to low-80s.
Let’s Talk about Disney Events for the Month
Okay, I’ve got some good news, some bad news, and some unbelievable news.
Let’s start with the one negative. Walt Disney World’s 50th-anniversary celebration ends on March 30th, 2023.
Those of you waiting until April to visit will miss out. However, you can sidestep this issue by arriving during the last couple of days of March and then staying through April.
You’ll get the best of both worlds by taking this approach. But, of course, you’ll still have the opportunity to enjoy a birthday party, just not that one.
The Walt Disney Company turns 100 in October 2023. Park officials aren’t about to wait until then to commemorate the event, though!
You can expect park decorations to appear in January 2023. So, you’ll definitely find many unique centennial offerings during an April visit!
Also, the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival will be up and running by next April. Disney debuted the 2022 version on March 2nd.
Let’s Talk about Central Florida Events for the Month
Okay, basketball fans, I won’t lie and say these games will matter.
However, the Orlando Magic’s 2022/2023 schedule includes several April home games.
During the first week of the month, you can watch the Magic probably lose three games on their way to hoping for another lottery victory.
That’s what passes for wins for Orlando basketball right now. On the plus side, the 2022 NBA Draft’s number one overall pick, Paolo Banchero, is fun to watch play.
As for soccer, Orlando City SC’s 2023 schedule hasn’t been published yet. However, we do know that the team hosted five matches last April. As such, you can safely expect a few.
Those of you who prefer the performing arts can watch a legendary Broadway play next April.
The touring company for Chicago will perform at Dr. Phillips Center from April 18th – April 23rd.
As for concerts, nobody significant has tickets on sale for April yet at the time of publication, but we’re still six months away from that time.
I’m confident Central Florida will add numerous excellent concert options for that month. There always are.
Final Thoughts
I always stress that there’s no bad time to visit Walt Disney World. However, some parts of the annual calendar are better.
A Spring Break Disney trip does come with some minor downsides. If your school is on vacation, others are as well. That means larger crowds at the parks.
Still, you don’t have much choice as a parent. So you travel when your kid is off from school.
Also, as a theme park lover, you’re going to Walt Disney World. It’s as simple as that.
So, April 2023 is an ideal time to visit thanks to the weather and the special events available at the parks!
