Tips For Getting the Most Out of Your Disney Getaway
If you’re planning on visiting Disney World or Disneyland Resort then we’ve got some awesome tips that will allow you to get the most out of your Disney getaway. From how to get the latest discounts to saving money while you’re at the parks here are a few of our favorite pointers!
Be On the Lookout for Awesome Discounts
There are several ways to save on your Walt Disney World getaway. The easiest option is to work with an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner like MickeyTravels who will work to get the best discounts for you. In addition, here are a few other great ways to save.
- Special Offers and Military Discounts – A great way to save is to check the “Special Offers” pages on both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort websites. You’ll find local resident discounts, package offers, military offers and more! Also make sure that your My Disney Experience app is updated to stay abreast of the latest discount news!
- Seasonal Offers – Park tickets at Disney can vary depending on the time of year that you visit! Being flexible with your vacation dates means that you can search for those off-peak times of year and get some additional savings. You’ll find a pricing calendar online under tickets!
- Save on Tiny Tots – Did you know that children Under 3 don’t need to purchase a ticket for Walt Disney World or Disneyland. They can go in with a parent/guardian at no additional cost.
Food & Beverage Tips For Maximizing Your Park Days
- Buy a refillable popcorn bucket and save – Purchase a refillable popcorn bucket on your first park day. That way the whole family can save on discounted refills at the theme parks during the entire length of your visit. Best of all you can bring it home with you at the end of your getaway.
- Get a Quantum Pretzel at Pym Test Kitchen – This recommendation comes from a member of the planDisney panel! This giant snack is perfect for a family of four! It sells for $12.99 so means that if you’re feeding a family of four it actually saves you money on snacks!
- Don’t forget the lounges – Want to save a bit of money but still want the delicious dishes that Disney table service restaurants are known for? Consider popping by one of the lounges adjacent to the restaurants. Here you can share appetizers and often times save rather than ordering a full three courses at the restaurant!
- Order a Pizza – Did you know many of the food courts at Walt Disney World resorts offer large pizzas that can feed a whole family? Order one and take it to the room for a cheap dinner!
- Water is Free – It’s important to stay hydrated during those hot theme park afternoons. Guests can ask for complimentary cups of water at any quick service location at Disneyland or Walt Disney World.
Enjoy Some Off-The-Beaten-Path Experiences
- Animation Experience at Conservation Station is Perfect for Budding Artists – While at Animal Kingdom, be sure to hop the train over to Conservation Station where you’ll enjoy a 25 minute character sketch tutorially from a Disney animator.
- Check out vintage animation at Main Street Station – If you’re at Disneyland theme park pop over to the Main Street Cinema where you can check out some of Disney’s oldest animated shorts played on a retro theater screen.
- Kidcot Stops at EPCOT’s World Showcase – A great way to get the whole family excited during your visit around the World Showcase is to stop by the Kidcot Fun Stop. At each of the countries, kids can collect a special traveler’s card that features a special fact about the country along with a fun coloring sheet!
- Flag Ceremony at Magic Kingdom Park – At Disneyland and at Magic Kingdom at 5pm Each Day , there is a Flag Retreat where members of the military are invited to take the flag down for the evening. They are joined by the theme park band and Dapper Dans for what is always an evocative and patriotic experience.
- Save on Souvenirs – A great way to save is to get Disney gift cards in bulk from places like Costco or Sam’s Club before your getaway. They are normally offered at a discounted price which means that when you use them during your visit you’ll actually save! Those with a Disney Rewards Visa card also save on merchandise at the theme parks when you use your card to pay for your Disney purchases!
- Pressed Coins make an easy memento – Bring those spare coins and use them at pressed penny machines throughout the Disney theme parks and resorts. They make an economical souvenir that are super fun to collection.
There are Perks To Staying at a Disney Resort
- Resort activities – There is so much to do at a Disney resort and a great place to start is by checking out the Resort Activities board in the lobby when you arrive. These free recreation offerings include pool parties, lawn games, trivia, campfires, Movies Under the Stars and more!
- Convenient transportation – Getting from your Disney Resorts to the theme parks is a breeze. Some are within walking distance and others are just a monorail, cable car, boat or bus away!
- Magical extras – You never know what is just around the corner at a Disney resort. Characters will often make surprise appearances at the hotel lobbies. Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is also home to the Tri-Circle D Ranch where you’ll find beautiful horses that are used in Disney’s parades and festivities!
- Save with a refillable resort mug – Pick up a refillable resort mug at your resort food court on the first day of your visit and you can get free refills at the resort drink stations throughout your stay! This includes soft drinks, coffee, tea and more! Plus the mugs make a great souvenir that you can take home with you!
