On September 23rd, Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 22-218, declaring first a State of Emergency for 24 counties in the potential path of the storm.
President Joe Biden authorized and approved federal assistance as Florida prepares for Ian.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security will provide assistance and necessary resources to help any of the Florida areas impacted.
WESH reports that Biden was planting to visit Florida for a Democratic National Committee rally on September 27th but has postponed the trip.
Ian Updates
According to WESH News, as of 5:30am, Ian is forecast to hit Florida as a Category 3 hurricane.
“Tropical Storm Ian was 345 miles south-southeast of Grand Cayman and 625 miles southeast of the western tip of Cuba. Ian is moving west-northwest at 12 mph with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.” WESH news.
WESH 2 Chief Meteorologist Tony Mainolfii reported, “We are expecting more rapid intensification over the next few days day with Ian forecast to become a Category 4 hurricane as early as Tuesday then weaken Thursday as wind shear is currently forecast to increase with a cold front on Thursday.”
