Late Queen Bestowed Honorary Knighthood on Iger, John Williams
Before she passed on Sept. 8th, the enigmatic late Queen Elizabeth II granted an honorary knighthood to two entertainment industry icons: former Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger and legendary film composer John Williams.
Dubbed the KBE, the two received the title of Honorary Knight of Commander of the British Empire. Approved this year, Iger and Williams found themselves on a short list of foreign nationals who received special titles from the queen for their work.
According to a story in The Hollywood Reporter, Williams received the honor due to his extensive contributions to the film industry via his memorable compositions. Thanks to his efforts to develop ever-stronger U.K.-U.S. relations, Iger received his KBE designation.
Yesterday, Iger graciously posted about the honor in a Tweet and shared a reflection on his own “deep personal and professional connection to the United Kingdom” in a statement.
It is one of the great honors of my life to have the honorary Knight of the British Empire conferred on me by Queen Elizabeth II before she passed. I have great affection for the people of the UK & have always appreciated and been inspired by their extraordinary contributions.

“I have great affection for the people of the UK and have always appreciated and been inspired by their extraordinary contributions, particularly in the creative arts,” Iger eloquently said in the statement published widely and quoted here from Comicbook.com.
