Box Office Figures Prove That Audiences Still Love Avatar
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that this weekend saw beloved James Cameron film Avatar return to theaters. If this weekend’s box office figures are anything to go by, even though the original film came out in 2009, the appetite is still there for the franchise!
The film, which was rereleased by 20th Century Studios grossed $30.5 million in total this weekend with and $20.5 of this being at the global box office. The film has been remastered in 4K HDR. The rerelease put the film in the top spot across several markets which spells good news for the sequel Avatar: The Way of Water which comes out later this year.
Make that $10M for #Avatar in its re-release and over $20M worldwide. Domestically, that’s from only 1,800+ theaters w/ a massive 93% being from 3D screens. Definitely bodes well for #TheWayOfWater in December. Disney is poised to have a HUGE Nov & Dec at the box office pic.twitter.com/31wUEa75zD

Though the numbers aren’t insane like they were when the film originally came out, it should be noted that the screenings were 3D and only played in select markets. If you’ve not yet had a chance to see the original on the big screen, we recommend that you do. There’s nothing quite like it!
James Cameron himself took to Twitter this weekend to big up the production. Check out his tweet below!
Cameron himself posted a message on Twitter this weekend talking up the remaster and the surprises.
It’s time to see #Avatar the way it was meant to be seen. Experience it back in theaters now with a special surprise 👀
