‘Tron’ Celebrates 40th Anniversary
In 1982, a revolutionary sci-fi film hit theaters. ‘Tron’ follows the story of a genius video game programer named Kevin Flynn (played by Jeff Bridges).
Flynn ends up abducted and finds himself inside a life like digital world where he has to fight his way through gladiatorial type games in order to escape.
The film was mostly forgotten about until Disney created the sequel, ‘Tron: Legacy.’ In ‘Tron: Legacy’ we pick up the story with Flynn’s son Sam, who is now looking into his father’s 20 year disappearance.
Once reunited inside the game, father and son battle for their lives across a cyber universe that has changed drastically over the past 20 years.
Since then the original Tron has made a comeback. Not to mention, an animated spin off (‘Tron: Uprising’), and soon to be 2 attractions!
The very popular ‘Tron Lightcycle Power Run’ at Disneyland Shanghai opened in 2016. Its counter part is set to open at the Magic Kingdom in Spring 2023.
Tron Lightcycle/Run is a roller coaster that will feature guests riding motorcycle like ride vehicles. The motorcycles will be launched into a game like world based on the movie ‘Tron.’
Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman, Josh D’Amaro recently got a chance to ride Tron Lightcycle/Run during testing at the Magic Kingdom.
Until you get the chance to experience the new attraction in person, be sure to check out what is streaming on Disney+.
Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Tron by watching ‘Tron,’ ‘Tron: Legacy,’ and ‘Tron: Uprising’ on Disney+!
