BREAKING NEWS: Disney World App Down?!
Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels were panicking this morning when they discovered the Disney World app was down!
At 7 a.m., guests can make their first Genie+ selection of the day, join a virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
Or, that’s the first chance for those guests to purchase an individual lightning lane entry for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.
But not today!
Disney World app down
I’m staying at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge this week, so I set my alarm and my plan was to log into the app and at 6:59 a.m. have the page for Guardians of the Galaxy open in my app.
But that didn’t happen.
Instead, I was sent a one-time passcode to log into the app. I retrieved that from my email, put it into the field, and nothing.
I got stuck in an endless loop of trying to log in! I thought something was wrong with my account.
At one point, I was even shown someone else’s email address! The passcode for my account at gmail was sent to someone with a hotmail account!
I immediately spoke with my friends at Disney IT. They told me that, unfortunately, no cast members or guests had access to My Disney Experience.
They said the system was down, and they didn’t know when it would be back up.
When I asked what they would do about the virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy, they didn’t know.
Disney IT assumed that guests of EPCOT would be able to join the virtual queue as soon as the system returned.
I was assured that all guests of the Walt Disney World Resort would still be able to get into the parks, even with the app down.
As I sat in The Old Faithful Club, the club lounge at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge (review to come! Spoiler: it’s awesome!), I saw guest after guest panicking.
Everyone was worried they wouldn’t be able to go into the parks.
It seems this was a system-wide issue. DisneyTravelAgents.com (the official Disney travel agents booking engine) and DisneyCruiseLine.com were not working as well.
According to the Downdector, Disney+ was also down overnight, around 3 a.m. Are the two outages connected?
The app came back up by 7:44 a.m., but my colleagues couldn’t make dining reservations for their clients at that time.
Why did this happen? We don’t know, but we’ll let you know when we do!
