Disneyland Lays Out More Artificial Turf As Part of Water Conservation Effort
In an effort to conserve water, Disneyland has laid artificial turf around much of the park and is continuing to lay more.
On Friday, September 2, artificial turf will be unveiled around the Mickey floral planter at the Disneyland entrance and the Haunted Mansion front lawn. Just in time for Halloween Time.
The first major installation of the artificial turf started in 2012 when Cars Land opened at Disney California Adventure park. The turf was laid in front of Sarge’s Surplus Hut and Flo’s V8 Cafe and in the queue line at Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters. Disneyland uses 8 different types of artificial turf with gray, brown, and off-white blades intermittently woven in to look more natural, so it is not cheap looking and harder to notice.
The natural grass around the Storybook letter on the hillside of the Storybook Land Canal Boats were swapped out to artificial turf over a 3-day period in July. This saves 81,000 gallons of water a year. Grass bands around the perimeter of Disneyland Town Square floral beds along with smaller grass planters near Disneyland City Hall were converted to the turf in early August.
The Adventure Tower lawn at the Disneyland Hotel has also received artificial turf as well as some relief areas for service dogs throughout the three parks.
But not everything will become artificial, some bushes, plants, and flowers will remain real as they use less water than grass.
Stay tuned for all things Disney.
