Disney and Pixar Claim 9 Songs Listed in Top 10 Favorite Animated Movie Songs
BBC Radio 2 listeners have been voting for their favorite songs from animated movies, and it should come as no surprise that Disney managed to claim 9 spots out of the total 10.
Let’s take a look!
As readers of MickeyBlog.com, we know that Disney and Pixar just have a way of moving your soul with their animated features.
Of course, the stunning animation always helps, but it comes down to the soundtracks that really have the capacity of making us feel every emotion under the sun.
From humming along, laughing out loud, to having our hearts filled with love, and to ugly sobbing into a pillow, Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar can truly do it all.
Enough talking about the list, let’s dive into it!
10. Happy – Pharrell Williams (Despicable Me 2, 2013)
Pharrell Williams managed to claim the only spot not taken by either the Walt Disney Company, a great feat for the singer and a well-deserved place for the toe-tapping song.
9. Hakuna Matata – Nathan Lane/Ernie Sabella/Jason Weaver/Joseph Williams (The Lion King, 1994)
Hakuna Matata coming in at number 9 marks the 1st of a total of 3 songs from the beloved classic The Lion King, making it the only film to have more than one song make the top 10 list.
Considering how much of a cultural phenomenon the movie became, and just how good the soundtrack is, this really isn’t surprising.
8. Beauty and the Beast – Angela Lansbury (Beauty And The Beast, 1991)
The titular song of 1991’s Beauty and the Beast marks a pivotal moment in the film and manages to capture a beautiful moment between the pair with stunning emotion thanks to Angela Lansbury.
7. I’ll Make a Man Out of You – Donny Osmond (Mulan, 1998)
All I need to say is “Let’s get down to business” and you know the reason why I’ll Make a Man Out of You made this list!
Mulan overall has an incredible soundtrack, but there is no denying the earworm that this song is.
6. We Don’t Talk About Bruno – Adassa Beatriz, Mauro Castillo, Rhenzy Feliz, Carolina Gaitán, Diane Guerrero & cast of Encanto (Encanto, 2021)
Although Encanto may be the newest animated feature to get consideration, there is absolutely no contesting the song’s placement on this list.
But we don’t talk about Bruno… no, no, no…
5. Can You Feel The Love Tonight – Elton John (The Lion King, 1994)
Elton John’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight is a song that feels so tangible while listening and we could never imagine a top 10 animated movie soundtrack list where this number didn’t make it on.
This song takes us into the top 5 of the list as we head into some of the most iconic songs to ever feature in animated films.
4. Let It Go – Idina Menzel (Frozen, 2013)
There is nothing as beneficial to the soul as belting this song out loud alongside Idina Menzel (no matter how much we may be off-key), and we have Frozen to thank for that.
It’s difficult to think of what could possibly top the show-stopping Let It Go after hearing it absolutely everywhere since Frozen debuted back in 2013. However, upon reading the next three songs, we think you’ll understand.
3. You’re Welcome – Dwayne Johnson (Moana, 2016)
All we needed to hear before the release of Moana was it included Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson rapping and we were sold.
Then we heard You’re Welcome for the first time, and we were forever changed people who all knew how to rap.
2. Circle Of Life – Carmen Twillie / Lebo M (The Lion King, 1994)
There is absolutely no thinking about 1994’s The Lion King without the opening number and the unforgettable sunset that rises as the song begins.
…aaaaaaand drum roll, here is the number 1 animated movie song as voted by BBC Radio 2 listeners… You’ve Got a Friend in Me!
1. You’ve Got a Friend in Me – Randy Newman (Toy Story, 1995)
You’ve Got a Friend in Me is definitely iconic, and we couldn’t imagine a better song being chosen as number 1.
Funnily enough, it is also the only Pixar movie to be included on this list, making it a double win for Randy Newman!
