Fun things to do with kids that don’t like the BIG rides
One of my favorite things about Walt Disney World is that it truly is fun for everyone! While there are the big rides for the thrill seeking park visitor, there are also many other fun things to see and enjoy.
Shows
The shows at Disney World are near Broadway quality, but not as long, which makes them perfect for kids! There are a few that are a MUST for us every visit.
The first one that comes to mind is The Festival of the Lion King at Animal Kingdom. The audience sits around the “stage” and gets to interact too! Plus, I just love to sing along.
Our favorite at Hollywood Studios is For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration. Did I already mention, I love to sing along?
This show is a hosted by the Royal Historians of Arendelle as they recap the history of their beloved town. There are some witty jokes built in that always make me laugh as well.
Just a few others that we love as well:
Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond! at Animal Kingdom
Beauty & the Beast Live on Stage at Hollywood Studios
Disney Junior Play and Dance! at Hollywood Studios
Parades
While we talk about the shows, the parades and cavalcades are fun to watch as well. It isn’t a big ride but it is a big production!
The Festival of Fantasy has two performances; 12:00 and 3:00. Just make sure you find a good spot along the parade route a little early!
One good thing that came from Covid is the cavalcades. These are much shorter, parade type performances throughout the day. It’s a great way to see many of your favorite characters all in one spot!
Character Meet and Greets
Can I tell you how happy I am that Character interaction is back?! Getting a hug from your favorite character is just good for your soul.
You just need to check your My Disney Experience App for where and when to find them. You can meet a wide range of characters at every park. I may have cried a little the first time my Minnie Mouse loving daughter met her idol.
When the kids are really young, it’s fun to make your trip more about meeting the characters and getting autographs. Check out my article with fun ways to collect autographs here!
The Not So BIG Rides
Call it a mistake, or maybe a great photo op but I made my daughter go on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train with me as her first roller coaster. I was SO excited to share that ride with her but I kinda ruined her future on any other BIG rides.
Don’t fight with your kids to make them ride the BIG rides, there are plenty of other attractions that they will love! It turns out her favorite ride was Under the Sea – Journey of the Little Mermaid. Make sure you try the game like rides, like Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and Try Story Mania!
Then you have your classics, like It’s a Small World and Dumbo. Just feel out your kids and take advantage of being together in a truly magical place!
