CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Finishing Touches Being Added to TRON Coaster at the Magic Kingdom
During our visit to the Magic Kingdom this morning, MickeyBlog popped over to Tomorrowland to check out the progress of the TRON Coaster in Tomorrowland!
As you can see, work is being done to the neighboring Light & Power Co.
Light & Power Co is the gift shop connected to Space Mountain.
Because Light & Power Co shares a walkway with the TRON coaster, work is being carried out to the exterior of the building.
Though the shop remains open, entrances are closed as exterior work is being carried out!
We expect that the shop refurb will feature new exits and perhaps even display windows.
A wall also separates the side of the building from Tomorrowland Speedway.
We expect a more permanent barrier to be put into place.
During our ride on the PeopleMover, we got a good view of construction along the entire length of Light & Power Co.
Below, you can see new additions being added to the exterior of the building.
Since this area will be more visible as guests walk to the TRON coaster, Imagineers want it to fit in more cohesively with the TRON coaster theme.
From this vantage point it looks like work is being done to the exterior windows in the back of the shop.
The main windows at the top of the structure still look intact.
Moving over to the Coaster itself, work continues to the grounds around the ride.
More concrete walls are being erected to separate the attraction from the Tomorrowland Speedway.
A tunnel has also been built to support the Walt Disney World Railroad.
The Railroad is expected to re-open near or around the same time as the TRON Coaster
It looks like a lot of the major construction on the coaster has been completed.
We’ve also noticed the cars being tested during some of our recent visits!
The focus of construction recently has been on the queuing area which you can see start to take shape in these images.
With all of the exterior work nearly completely, it looks like there are only little details left and some landscaping.
However, Disney has yet to announce an official opening date!
We hope it is before the end of the year but we’ll keep you posted when we hear more!
The TRON Coaster has really modernized the Tomorrowland Skyline!
The canopies look absolutely stunning and be illuminated to give riders the feeling that they are soaring through cyberspace.
Readers are encouraged to keep following laong with MickeyBlog for further Walt Disney World news and updates.
