Pirates of the Caribbean Producer Reveals Details About New Film in the Franchise
We’ve got a bit of news to share with you regarding the future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, producer Jerry Bruckheimer was asked how things were going on the next Pirates of the Caribbean film and he responded, .”I’ve very excited, it’s going to be terrific,” The producer continued, “We’re just working on the screenplay. One of the original writers, Ted Elliot, is helping write it. He has a great command of the characters.”
Ted Elliot’s involvement is good news for Pirates fans as he was also the screenwriter for a slew of other Pirate’s related projects including Curse of the Black Pearl! However, the big question on everyone’s mind is whether Johnny Depp will be returning to the project. Recently Kevin McNally, who plays Joshamee Gibbs in the films said during his podcast that he believes Depp should be given a chance to return as Captain Jack!
“I’ve never seen a hint of any dark side to Johnny. I see a great humanitarian and a beautiful human being. I don’t see any impediment for him coming back and playing Jack Sparrow.” McNally said. “I think there was a general feeling that without Jack there is no Pirates franchise. And there’s probably a lot of truth in that. But now there have been questions about that, certainly why not have other Pirate films and certainly then why not have Jack back or Jack playing a different part.” Yet, whether we see the iconic character make a comeback is still a longshot.
Aside from a screenwriter, little else is known about the sixth film including casting. As we previously reported here at MickeyBlog, Margot Robbie has been rumored to be involved with many speculating that she may be taking on a role similar to Redd, the new female pirate the presides over the auction scene in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
Though no additional cast members have been confirmed, Kaya Scoldelario, who played Carina Barbossa in Dead Men Tell No Tales, revealed that she signed a contract for a sixth film. It is also rumored that Henry Turner (Carina’s partner played by Brenton Thwaites) could also be returning.
This is a story that we will continue to follow closely here at MickeyBlog. Readers are encouraged to keep checking back with us for further news and updates!
