TRON Construction Site Is a Bustle of Activity Today
Today we’re feeling relatively optimistic that there’s an end in sight for Magic Kingdom’s TRON coaster construction in Tomorrowland.
We’ve been watching the project inch along over the past few weeks but today it was a bustle of activity.
Construction crews were hard at work today on the lower levels of the attraction.
It remains one of the few areas that still needs a bit of TLC.
If you followed along with us through the Spring you’ll know that work on the track and canopy is now complete.
Disney has even been known to do testing of the attraction both during and after the theme parks hours.
As you can see in these images, the tunnel for the Walt Disney World Railroad is also taking shape.
The Railroad was closed when TRON construction started as the site of the new coaster overlaps with the former railroad track.
With the implementation of a new tunnel, railroad riders will now be able to travel underneath the TRON attraction when getting from Fantasyland to Main Street U.S.A.
There’s been now word yet on when either attraction might open.
The focus of the construction teams just now seems to be on the entrances and exits to the attraction.
This extends to the grounds around the attraction.
Over the last few weeks we’ve seen concrete dividing walls go up.
We’ve noticed them along the queuing area as well as along the railroad tunnel.
Barriers are also being put up along Tomorrowland Speedway to separate the two attractions.
In addition, the TRON Coaster sits next to Space Mountain.
With this in mind, the Light & Power Co. which is the Space Mountain gift shop is having work done to its exterior.
The shop is getting a new façade and perhaps and addition entrance or display windows.
It will share a walkway with the new coaster.
We rode the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover this afternoon which is a great way to see the construction site.
Due to our raised sightlines, we could see that a crane was on the loading ramp with work being done to the queuing area.
We’ve been tracking the entire construction process for TRON and remain convinced that this coaster is going to something truly spectacular.
The beautiful billowing canopies have completely changed the Magic Kingdom skyline.
Once the ride is in service, these canopies will be illuminated to give guests the feeling that you are soaring through cyberspace.
Rather than traditional coaster cars, guests will hope on replicas of the lightcycles from the film.
The TRON coaster at Magic Kingdom gets its inspiration from a similar attraction at Shanghai Disney.
The Chinese version of the ride is wildly popular and definitely one of the biggest headliners!
Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog.
We try to come to your with TRON coaster updates on a weekly basis.
We’ll continue to do so until the attraction officially opens!
