Hot Take: Ohana Noodles are Not Good
If you know anything about Disney dining, then you have heard of the famous restaurant Ohana. Ohana mean family, and here it means family-style.
This super popular restaurant serves an all you care to enjoy polynesian feast of epic proportions. Good luck getting reservations, because this restaurant is one of the most popular restaurants at Walt Disney World.
Ohana serves unlimited bread, salad, chicken, teriyaki beef, pork dumplings, broccolini, chicken wings, and noodles. Ohana noodles…
If you have heard anything about Ohana or Disney food, I bet you have heard about Ohana noodles. People go crazy for them! So much so that when Disney removed them from the menu, not once but twice, over the last few years, people went nuts and basically demanded Disney bring them back. Yikes.
After hearing people talk about these noodles for literally years, we snagged a last minute reservation to Ohana to try these amazing noods.
We ate the bread and salad and both were delicious. We got our dumplings and wings, yum! Then we saw them… the golden saucy noodles that we have been reading about, seeing, and hearing all over the internet forever.
The sauce glistened in the sunlight. I twirled them around my fork anticipating that first bite. And then the magic moment where all that anticipation becomes reality and… meh.
I’m going to say it… Ohana noodles are gross. Change my mind.
Seriously, I do not understand the hype! Is it just hype to hype? There was so much sauce that they just felt slimy and gross in my mouth.
And let’s talk about this sauce – It was like if Disney’s creamy herb dressing, teriyaki, and the most bland flavors came together to have a baby. The noodles somehow had no flavor and a weird flavor at the same time.
I wasn’t sure what to expect exactly, but these were not it. Maybe I thought it would be similar to Chinese take out lo mein because of how they looked, but I definitely didn’t anticipate overly sauced, slimy, and just so bland and weird. So disappointing!
Let’s Talk Other Food
We’re not ripping on Ohana! Just the noodles.
Everything else was delicious. We probably ate our weight in those dumplings and chicken wings. Poor broccolini – In and amongst all of the good naughty food, not many people want to waste stomach space on a vegetable, even a fancy legume like a broccolini.
Now, the true star of Ohana. Forget the noodles. Blech. No, bring out the… Ohana Bread Pudding! Cue drool…
The bread pudding is made from the sweet Hawaiian pineapple coconut bread that they serve, and then it is topped with a huge scoop of ice cream and served with a hot caramel sauce.
Now, can we just take a moment to appreciate the glory that is this hot caramel sauce mixing and sliding down that cold ice cream which is then soaking into the bread pudding?
O.M.G., yes.
All I can say is, thank goodness calories don’t count in Disney World!
