Whispering Canyon Cafe: Are the Antics Still the Same?
Yeehaw! Let’s make our way over to the Wilderness Lodge to enjoy a delicious and filling lunch over at the Whispering Canyon Cafe.
This restaurant is known for odd western decor, funny passive-aggressive antics by the servers, and out of this world portions that are BOTTOMLESS (for the skillets, anyways). Saddle up, partner, and we will mosey through this meal.
NEW: Mimosa Flight – $14
We should call this a Mom-mosa flight, since after a full morning in the Magic Kingdom, momma could use a few mimosas! What a fun way to start a meal, with 4 new ways to enjoy a mimosa.
The first drink was a traditional mimosa that is orange juice and champagne. It was exactly what you expect. Next was the blackberry mimosa. This was sweet and tasty, but honestly, I couldn’t stop thinking “communion wine” when I was sipping this. Third was the strawberry mimosa that the waiter mentioned was his favorite.
This is very very sweet and reminiscent of a melted strawberry daiquiri. The members of our group who love fruity cocktails loved this one best. Last but not least, is everyone’s favorite Disney juice, POG juice, transformed into a POG mimosa. POG is short for passion fruit, orange, and guava juice.
This is sweet and tart at the same time. Overall, this flight is fun and very much a “treat yo self” item that feels indulgent, but not too over the top expensive.
Sip, sip, hooray!🍹Whispering Canyon Cafe is serving up a Mimosa Flight featuring Pomegranate, Blood Orange, POG, and Orange flavors. Pair these delicious sips with your next BBQ brunch.🍴 #DisneyWorld pic.twitter.com/bFL9KEepNr

Food, Food, and MORE FOOD!
Disney is known for their generous portions, but Whispering Canyon does not mess around when it comes to their sizes.
They bring all of their food out in tin platter like dishes, but we affectionately referred to them as troughs. Our huge table could barely handle the amount of dishes on it! Neat freaks, beware!
Lunch is the best meal of the day to enjoy at Whispering Canyon Cafe because they offer both breakfast skillets and the lunch/dinner skillets.
That’s a fancy way of saying that you can enjoy your Mickey waffles in one hand and eat barbecued ribs with the other.
Our party enjoyed and shared all three varieties of All-You-Care-to-Enjoy Skillets: The Heritage, The Carnivore, and The Lighter Side.
The Heritage included unlimited house-made buttermilk cheddar biscuits with sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, country potatoes, hickory-smoked bacon, pork sausage links, and dun, dun, dunnnnnnnnnn – MICKEY WAFFLES.
Let’s face it, the Mickey waffles are the whole reason you order The Heritage skillet. No one lines up for a platter of sub-par scrambled eggs, let’s be real. We were lucky to have Mickey and Minnie waffles, and our server just knew we were going to order more, so he came out with a piled high tray of more!
Warm, crunchy, and fluffy on the inside, there is just nothing compared to a true authentic Mickey (or Minnie) waffle.
The bacon was delicious of course, and with the current cost of bacon, made the price totally worth it! We reordered 2 more full trays!
I would like to thank all the little piggies that donated to our cause… The sleeper hit item here were the country potatoes. These reminded us of a home fry, french fry mashup…(See what we did there?)
The Carnivore skillet includes unlimited house-made cornbread with honey butter, maple-chipotle barbecue slow-roast pork ribs, oak-smoked beef brisket, barbecue pulled pork, citrus herb chicken, country potatoes, buttered corn, and charred carrots. When Whispering Canyon Cafe says “carnivore” they mean it!
Our party was so busy enjoying this meaty schmorgousboard that we didn’t even notice the vegetables in the skillet. The cornbread was sweet and delicious, loved by all, but who wants to fill up on carbs when ribs are at stake?
Speaking of ribs, the waiter could not bring out more fast enough! They were the unanimous crowd favorite at our table. The other meat dishes were good, but the proof is in the empty troughs.
The Lighter Side Skillet includes Swiss oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, egg white spinach frittata, turkey bacon, turkey sausage, country potatoes, and Mickey waffles. The oatmeal was yummy, but it was basically overnight oats.
The frittata was pretty inedible to be honest, but that fresh fruit was so necessary amongst all of the salty foods we had going around. It was refreshing and welcomed. We are not a super health conscious bunch (clearly), so the turkey bacon and sausage was left untouched.
What Makes Whispering Canyon Cafe, Whispering Canyon Cafe
From the moment you meet your server, you are treated to funny antics that Whispering Canyon Cafe is known for. We are happy to report that it is all back!!!
To start our meal our server walked up to our table and threw like 20 straws at us like nothing just happened. It was funny to look at some of our group who were sporting that “what the heck just happened” look.
When he came back to take our drink order we were greeted with Florida snow. What? Never heard of snow in Florida? It’s when the server takes a stack of white paper napkins and throws them up in the air and they float down to our table. We were having so much fun, we forgot to take pictures of it! Oops.
Drinks were an interesting affair. After my flight of mimosas I requested a little water. I got just that. A little water. A little mason jar shot glass of water. Notice the ratio of size between the glass and the straw?
My friend on the other hand had requested a large water to rehydrate after our morning in the parks. She received a very large water. What size is this? Is there a half gallon mason jar?
Remember the straw we used as the measure of the small glass? It’s the same straw in the large water. It’s that huge! Side note: they serve that famous Florida tap water, (we call it gator water), and this location was especially swampalicious.
KETCHUP! Yes, the infamous embarrassing ketchup rally is still in full swing. Our table was really into it and not put off at all by having to yell “ketchup” as loud as possible.
We received over 30 bottles of ketchup, which was good because we are huge ketchup users, especially on those country potatoes. We did think it was funny that no other table after us asked for ketchup…
Remember, if you want to just watch the show and not be the show, just let your server know at the start of your meal.
Overall Experience
We had a lot of fun at the Whispering Canyon Cafe, and it was a great respite from the theme parks. The air conditioning is cold and the jokes are fun.
Any restaurant at the Wilderness Lodge is a great choice on your Magic Kingdom day because it is just an easy boat ride to get there.
Oftentimes, there is no wait for the boat! Our party arrived hot, sweaty, and tired, but we left cooled, refreshed, and full. Highly recommend.
