REVIEW: Star Wars Meta Quest Experience in Disney Springs
While you were waiting to try all the fun flavors at Salt and Straw in Disney Springs you might have noticed that the NBA Experience is no longer.
Don’t feel bad for not noticing a while ago…No one liked the NBA Experience anyway. While it may be gone, the building is no longer empty!
Disney is partnered with Meta Quest, formerly Oculus, to bring a whole new way to experience Star Wars with virtual reality technology! Did we mention the best part? It’s FREE.
Meta operates a virtual reality software directly with the Meta Quest 2 device that was once called Oculus. This is that device that is sweeping the internet and bringing more funny family videos than birthday pinatas. These headsets make everything appear so realistic that you may completely forget where you are!
We stumbled on to the Meta Quest 2 Virtual Reality Experience featuring ILMxLAB’s Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge and thought to give it a try to share with our great readers!
First, we did have to fill out a waiver, which was strange, but okay! Then we waited for no more than 5 minutes where we were able to ask a ton of questions to the Meta Quest Cast Member.
When it was our turn, we were escorted to a long hall separated into rooms by big, black curtains. In each cordoned off room was a single stand with a Meta Quest 2 device.
You are then given a 30 second crash course on how to operate the handles and maneuver the story and off your go!
You’re dropped into Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge and you’re fed the current story about the bounty that needs to be found. You can chat with the locals, play darts, or “eat” a space hot dog.
It was wild because while the characters were clearly fictitious and monstrous looking aliens, the experience itself felt so real!
You could stay in the bar if you wanted to, but you are able to go outside onto the planet of Batuu and shoot down bad guys and collect bounty. If somewhere were a more experienced gamer I know they would have found this amazing and rocked it!
We, on the other hand, did not master Donkey Kong so… It was so much fun, but I wasted 2 minutes of my allotted 5 minutes just trying to pick up my weapon, so as you can see, totally operator error.
Overall the game was really interesting with a lot of back story and places to go. We’re curious to see what is going to happen with this going forward.
In the end we were also given a $5 Disney gift card for giving a survey and $15 Meta credit sent via email. In the end, we played, we learned, and we got paid for it. Score!
This completely FREE experience is available until July 21, 2022. Head on over to Disney Springs West side to check it out!
