Make-A-Wish Children Named Godchildren of the Disney Wish
When a new cruise ship enters service, it’s customary to name an individual its godmother. However, that is changing today with the all-new Disney Wish, as Disney Cruise Line just announced that “all Make-A-Wish children, including past, present, and future wish recipients will be honored as godchildren of the Disney Wish!”
The godchildren of the Disney Wish are sure going to be in good company too! Selected “In (a) prestigious role which symbolically bestows good fortune on the vessel and its travelers,” godmothers of other Disney Cruise Line cruise ships include Patty Disney, Tinkerbell, Jennifer Hudson, and Mariah Carey.
“Make-A-Wish children and their families are brave, determined, resilient, and some of the most inspirational people you could ever meet,” stated Bob Chapek, CEO of the Walt Disney Company. “Wishing is a transformative experience that brings hope and joy, and it is out privilege to proudly recognize children who strive to overcome challenges as our Disney Wish godchildren. Working with Make-A-Wish to support children with critical illnesses and making magic when it is needed most will always be a priority for The Walt Disney Company.”
Disney and Make-A-Wish have been teamed up for over 40 years helping bring wishes to life for over 145,000 children around the globe with critical illnesses. It’s also very common for a wish from a Make-A-Wish child to be to visit at Disney Destination around the world as they estimate one in every two wish granted in the United States is a Disney wish.
“The selection of Make-A-Wish children as the godchildren of the Disney Wish is another example of how Disney and Make-A-Wish continue to find innovative ways to bring joy to the lives of wish kids and their families,” said Richard K. Davis, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish America. “We are honored to partner with The Walt Disney Company and we look forward to granting countless more wishes together.”
In addition to naming Make-A-Wish children the godchildren of the Disney Wish, an exclusive merchandise collection featuring a Mickey and Minnie Mouse plush, Minnie Ears headband, trading pin, spirit jersey, and tumbler will be making its debut aboard the Disney Wish!
As an added bonus, Disney will be donating 10% of the purchase price of the merchandise collection sold through July 18, 2023 to Make-A-Wish to bring a little extra magic to the lives of even more children.
During next week’s christening ceremony (that MickeyBlog will be covering LIVE!), several of the Disney Wish’s new godchildren will be on hand to “recite the blessing for the newest ship, evoking the spirit of optimism The Walt Disney Company is known for. You definitely won’t want to miss it!
Congrats to the new Make-A-Wish godchildren of the Disney Wish and Bon Voyage!
