Salt and Straw is known for pushing the boundaries of ingredients and creating wild flavors that just… work, so we had to go over and try every single flavor on this new list, and then some.
These flavors are a wild roller coaster ride, and it is nearly impossible to commit to a flavor that you can’t even imagine the taste of. Salt and Straw knows this so they offer UNLIMITED samples!
Let’s jump right in!
Cinnamon and Honey Fried Chicken
We’re not really sure what we expected from this, but it was just weird! Yes, you could taste fried chicken and it’s greasy, crunchy, salty goodness, but you could also taste vanilla ice cream. These flavors really fought each other.

Deviled Egg and Smoked Black Tea
We had to give ourselves a bit of a pep talk to put this into our mouths. Seriously, a deviled egg ice cream??? But we ate it and found that this was definitely a case of a flavor with split personalities.
At first, we were really happy with it, and it reminded us of thick and creamy eggnog. Yum! And then… it just kind of changed. The after taste was like rubbery, gross boiled egg whites. Blech!
Pink Rose and Watermelon Sorbet
Ah, yes, the safe flavor. It is not too sweet and very refreshing in the Florida heat. Too bad they don’t have a liquor license because this sorbet belongs with a mint julep under a magnolia tree.
Baked Brie and Fig Cheesecake
This was another flavor we were scared to try, but that is strictly because of a personal aversion to brie. The lovely cast member encouraged us that it was, in fact, delicious. She was right!
This was rich and complex with a strong taste of vanilla. Of the Summer 2022 flavors, this was our clear winner! Go figure.
Chocolate Nocino Cherry Pie
We don’t know where the chocolate flavor went, because we don’t even remember it being there! When we tried this it was like we had a slice of cherry pie in one hand and a shot of brandy in the other.
We are huge bourbon fans so this was a joy for us, but other members of our group who don’t enjoy the warm burn of the amber liquid definitely puckered up at the taste!
Classic Flavors
Since we were there, we decided to sample some of the classic flavors as well. Our cast member was our sommelier of ice cream and made recommendations based on some of her favorites and favorites of customers. Here’s our take on a few of the flavors that we tried:
Honey Lavender
Soap. Scrub a dub in a tub, soap. Flowery, perfumy soap. Felt like we might hiccup a bubble, soap. I think you get it.
The Salty Donut Guava and Cheese
You can literally taste every item in this title. We’re not sure that’s a great thing, but our group was completely divided on this cast member’s favorite. Some loved it and the others hated it. There was no middle ground.
Arbequina Olive Oil
You could tell that you were eating olive oil because of its distinct, light taste, but it really smoothed out the vanilla ice cream. What is creamier than a custard? Whatever that is, this was that.
Panther Coffee Chocolate Tres Leches
Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Nope, no chicken flavor here, just deliciousness. Do you love a good Starbucks cold brew? This winning combination was a solidified version of our favorite Starbucks order.
