Tips for Taking a Disney Vacation with Grandparents
Disney World is known as “The Most Magical Place on Earth” and grandparents want to experience the magic too! While they enjoy the rides and shows, they really just want to see their grandkids smile.

Where to Stay
Large parties have a few options on Disney property. One, is connecting rooms at any resort. While connecting rooms are not guaranteed they are most often accommodated.
This way you can leave the door open or close it off for additional privacy.

The All-Star resorts are great value options, and we loved the Family Suite at All-Star Music! It has room for 6 people not including babies. There is one room with a queen bed and bathroom attached.
The main room has 2 pull down murphy style queen beds and another bathroom. There is also a small kitchenette with a full-size fridge and microwave in the middle.

The deluxe resorts offer suites with up to 3 bedrooms. Sometimes these are harder to get, so you’ll want to get your reservation made early. What’s great about the suites is that they have a full kitchen and often your own washer and dryer too!

What to do on your vacation with grandparents
Remember while they may be young at heart, grandparents …and kids need breaks! Don’t push everyone too hard to do all the things.
Take advantage of Rider Swap. Have one or both grandparents sit with the little kids while you ride a ride with the older ones, then use your Rider Swap for the other to get a chance to ride too.

Taking Advantage of Rider Swap
See a show to enjoy the air conditioning. It’s a good break without having to go back to your resort.
If it’s a hot day, just take an afternoon break at the resort. Take advantage of resort transportation and go back to the room for a few hours. Enjoy a little power nap or maybe a dip in the pool. Remember you are on vacation!
Taking breaks is the key to making it all day at the parks. Table service meals are a perfect way to relax and take a load off while you recharge.
Make sure to pre-book your dining at the 60-day mark. Remember to eat and enjoy snacks throughout the day too!

Buy the Memory Maker Photo Package!
I recommend this to all my families. It is so nice to come home with hundreds of photos that include the whole family. Ask for Magic Shots and enjoy all the MAGIC Disney has to offer!
We make a shared album so we can all upload individual photos and share the photos from the Memory Maker.
After getting home from a Disney vacation, I love to make photo books with all the photos from the trip. Then I give it as a gift to the grandparents. It’s their own personal “brag book”!
Don’t be afraid to rent a scooter.
Make sure you consider the mobility of the grandparents. Park days can be a lot of walking and a scooter can help to make their day more enjoyable. Your MickeyTravels agent can help to add this to your reservation too!
Things to Pack for Grandparents
One year for Christmas we made a gift bag full of Disney extras to help our parents prepare for the trip.
We got them a portable, rechargeable fan, some ponchos, a portable phone charger, refillable water bottle, and custom shirts of course!
Use a MickeyTravels Agent
We know all the tips and tricks and it’s FREE! We can help weigh resort options, make sure your reservations are linked, and plans are shared. It’s our job and passion to “Make magic, one vacation at a time!”
And one last tip, from my mom, grandmother of 6: Bring a lot of money! But seriously, a great way to budget for souvenirs is to give each kid a gift card. They can buy whatever extra stuff they want but when it’s gone, it’s gone!
