Negative COVID Test No Longer Required for Entry Into United States
The other day, we reported that several lawmakers were pushing the government to end the requirement for a negative COVID test to enter into the United States. I am happy to report that beginning Sunday, June 12 at 12:01 am, this requirement will be expiring.
Per the AP, a senior official for the Biden Administration has stated that negative COVID test requirement will expire due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) deeming it no longer necessary.

While the testing requirement will expire beginning this Sunday, the CDC will reevaluate data every 90 days to see if it would be necessary to bring the testing back in the case a more robust variant is discovered.
It’s been over one year since the Biden Administration instituted the requirement for a negative COVID test to enter or re-enter the United States. At the time several other countries also had the requirement but have since dropped it.

When the testing requirement was originally announced, individuals who were fully-vaccinated could just show proof of a negative COVID test taken within three days of travel. Those who were un-vaccinated were required to show proof taken within one day of travel.
The terms did change though back in November of 2021 as the Omicron started to sweep the globe. It was at this time, all individuals entering the country were required to show proof of a negative COVID test within 24 regardless of vaccination status.

The testing proved to be a major roadblock for anyone looking to travel internationally as well as citizens from other countries looking to visit the United States. Lawmakers along with travel groups, airlines, and more have been pushing for an end to the testing requirement due to the negative financial impact that came with it.
Many have also pointed out that the negative COVID test requirement was antiquated to due to the high infection rate of the Omicron in the variant already in the United States as well as the high rates of vaccinations, treatments for the virus, and overall immunity in the population.
