Two New T-Shirts Celebrate McQuarrie Star Wars Art
It’s not everyday that we spot merchandise that embraces the legacy of a franchise quite like the two new Star Wars tees found today. Based in vintage-tones of blue and cream, the t-shirts capture the detail and imagination of the brilliant illustrator Ralph McQuarrie, the man responsible for the images that inspired the original Star Wars trilogy decades ago.
Found in Tatooine Traders, a retail location at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, one of the two tees highlight sketches of main characters gazing out of a ship at a flying, artificial planet (later known to us as the Death Star). The designs also display one original font choices for the “Star Wars” logo as well as storyline details within the imprinted notes.
All in the Star Wars Details on New McQuarrie Tees
Using only one image on the faded blue-colored tee, designers chose to feature many of McQuarrie’s images on taupe-toned tee. With a lighter shade in the background, the beige tee also plays allows for a bit more play with color, giving the scenes incredible energy.
The details abound on this tee, featuring “Luke” in a scene that involves the character (perhaps Luke Starkiller) seemingly about to take off out of a droid-manned trench. Storyboard notes on the tee capture the process and evolution of this image in its early days, prior to film production.
With a two-tone tee adding to the uniqueness of shirt itself, the movement and power of the X-Wing Starfighters stands out, again thanks to a variety of shading and coloration effects. On both the blue and the beige t-shirts, a vintage faux leather label highlights the Star Wars logo as well as Aurebesh, the language of the Star Wars universe. Saying “May the Force be with you” in the script, the tees also introduce a new “45” logo with Luke Starkiller, marking the franchise’s important anniversary this year.
Both tees retail for $36.99. During a visit today, MickeyBlogger Jared spotted the shirts at Tatooine Traders, the merchandise location that also houses the Droid Depot at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Bright suns, shoppers!
