Disney Wish Reaches Final Construction Milestone
After over two years of intense work, Disney Wish celebrated its final construction step today in Bremerhaven, Germany.
Crews from the Meyer Werft shipyard officially delivered the ship to Disney Cruise Line, and Captain Minnie Mouse even joined in the festivities.
Taking delivery of a ship serves as the exciting last step in any maritime construction project.
Among the special experiences during today’s ceremony, the Disney Cruise Line flag raised above the incredible new vessel for the first time, replacing the Meyer Werft flag, according to a Disney Parks Blog article.
Official documents transferring ownership of Disney Wish from Meyer Werft to Disney Cruise Line were also signed by the companies’ leaders: Thomas Mazloum, Disney Cruise Line President, and Jan Meyer, the managing director of Meyer Werft, according to the blog post.
In the most anticipated moment of all, the festivities concluded with the ship’s new leader, Captain Marco Nogara, assuming his position at the helm for the first time. Disney Wish now prepares to sail to Port Canaveral, the ship’s new home when it begins sailing next month.

Disney Wish Construction Finally Complete
In the initial timeline, Disney Wish was expected to set sail on its first Bahamian adventure today.
However, construction delays pushed the ship’s inaugural voyage, which now departs from Port Canaveral, Florida on July 14th.
Already, Disney Dream set sail for the final time from that port for its new home in Miami, making room for Disney Wish to arrive in the near future. Disney Wish becomes the fifth boat in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, taking passengers on 3- and 4-night itineraries.
Of course, Disney’s private island Castaway Cay features on the majority of itineraries as does a stop in Nassau, Bahamas.
Boasting Disney Cruise Line’s first water roller coaster, AquaMouse, Disney Wish brings with it an abundance of new entertainment, dining options, and aesthetic details. Stay tuned for the latest as this ship’s debut quickly approaches.
