Celebrating Johnny Depp on His 59th Birthday
John Christopher Depp II was born this day 59 years ago in Owensboro, KY.
The family moved a few years later to Florida settling in Miramar. Depp dropped out of high school at the age of 15 spending his time fronting different bands.

The Early Years
Not long after dropping out of school, he moved to Los Angeles joining a band called The Kids.
Fast forward a few years and Depp was struggling to survive as a musician. He turned to acting to make ends meet.

It didn’t take long and Depp landed his first movie roll as the boyfriend of a lead actor in Nightmare on Elm Street. His character was killed off early in the movie but it was enough to get him noticed. Soon, there were other major rolls.

Disney Relationship
Many TV and movie rolls followed, and in 2003 Depp landed his first Disney roll as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean Series.
He reprised the roll in 4 sequels between 2004 and 2017, Captain Jack becoming one of his most famous rolls.
As Captain Jack Sparrow, Depp was the first man ever nominated for a Best Actor Oscar nomination for a film released under a Disney label.

Depp was nominated for another Oscar for portraying JM Barrie in the 2004 movie Finding Neverland.
Other ties to Disney include his roll as Tarrant Hightop (Mad Hatter) in Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass. Depp also portrayed Tonto in the western Lone Ranger and the Wolf in Into the Woods.
Johnny the Musician
Long before becoming an actor, Depp’s original ambition was to be a rock star. Refusing to let that dream go, he has maintained a steady side-gig of performing with various groups. Even guesting on friends albums and showing up at friends concerts to perform.

What’s Next?
Most recently, Depp has been performing in the UK with Jeff Beck. The duo announced earlier Thursday they are releasing their album, 18, scheduled to drop on July 15.
